Ricoh GXR uses Lenses with Built-in Image Sensors

Ricoh GXR

As far as I can tell this is a first for digital cameras. Ricoh has just released the GXR camera which has the lens, image sensor, and image processing engine all contained in one unit. This allows the body to be very small and yet still have interchangeable lenses. Ricoh claims it is the smallest camera with interchangeable lenses. Small and new equals a hefty price tag. Amazon is allowing pre-orders for the body only for $549. There are two lenses I found on Amazon and they are selling for $830 and $440.

Read about more details about the GXR from DPreview.com.

Six Month Pinhole Camera Exposure Photograph

Justin Quinnell is a very experienced pin-hole photographer. One of his latest creations is a photograph that took a picture over six months. The image was able to capture the sun’s path across the sky starting on December 19, 2007 and ending on June 21, 2008. Justin took the aluminum can camera and attached it to a telephone pole overlooking a suspension bridge. I really like the photograph because of how little it appears to be a photograph and more like an impressionist painting.

Nature Can’t Help Being Beautiful

It seems mother nature is so beautiful she can’t help it even when she is involved in an accident. Here we see leaves that have fallen into a fresh paved street and have been impregnated into the coating. I think it would be nice to allow this to happen to an entire suburban street. I could see the street becoming known for it.

Global Warming Swimming Pool

To raise awareness of global warming, ad agency Ogilvy & Mather added an ariel view of a city at the bottom of a pool. The obvious effect is a city underwater which comes off very well and makes a pool that must be a trip to swim in.

Monster Truck Tilt Shift Video

Another great tilt shift video this time of a monster truck event. There are a couple of angles in the video that are so good it looks exactly like a stop animation of little trucks and cars.

Time-lapse Tilt-shift Video

I always enjoy looking at tilt-shift photography. I was really excited to see someone taking it one step further and make a time-lapse video of it. It looks so interesting and different when the motion is present. Keith Loutit has made a time-lapse video of Sydney, Australia locations and residents.
