Don Norman on Well Designed Products

Don Norman talks about the three emotional cues a well designed product needs in order to succeed. But apparently Digg users do not agree. Find source link at bottom if you want to read comments. I suggest just going on with your life happy.

Banksy’s Work on Tshirts Controversy

I want to first start by saying I am not going to argue the social or moral reasons why someone should not take another artist’s work and use it without permission as I am sure most readers already understand that, I am going to instead talk about the interesting legal issues this controversy raises.

Banksy is a famous artist known for his street art. Shot Dead in the Head is a clothing company out of Britain which started to sell Banksy’s art on tshirts. As Cottonable has pointed out this company set the price of the work and will donate all royalties to charities. As far as I can tell royalties doesn’t necessarily mean all profit. Not only that but Banksy’s anonymity is a key element in his popularity. I doubt he will come forward to stop this because in doing so he will have to reveal his identity. I do not know if it is possible to maintain copyright ownership of one’s work from a anonymous identity. If anyone knows for sure please leave a comment.

Nokia Online Phone Personalization

Nokia has developed a site which allows users to create their own Nokia artistic cellphone cover using simple drawing tools, already created designs, or uploaded images. As Mashable states Nike has their own type of service to do shoes and I think we can expect competitors will have to offer the same or better if these sites are found successful.

X-Ray Messages to Airport Security Screeners

Want to send a message to those people scanning your luggage? Evan Roth has been working on a new project where he is taking metal signs and cutting out symbols or messages so only those with Rontgen radiation machines can see them.

Going Clickless

Click this, click here, click now. For a limited click only; everywhere a click-click. The Web has become an endless sea of clicking, until now. The time has come to start replacing your clicks with gestures and timers. Some of this is already starting to be seen with the interactivity of some Wii games. It also is starting to become popular on the web as well. An excellent site on exploring the concept of not clicking is the Dontclick.it website, where one last click gets you in to a world without clicks.

I Love Sketch: Intuitive 3D Sketch Program

This is a very intuitive 3d design program that turns all sketched lines into nurbs. This takes the 3D workspace and adds the 2d aspects of virtual sketching together in one program. Enhanced features include automatic rotation and curve enhancement and native sketch gestures. As they say the video is worth a thousand pictures and explains why this program is very cool. I can see why this program would be very useful for product and automotive design.

Image With Every Photoshop Filter Used

This serves more for curiosity then actual usefulness but I will admit at least a time or two thinking what an image would look like with every photoshop effect applied to it. It seems someone has taken the time to show us. I would be curious what the image would look like after using different filter orders.

Portable Cardboard Art Table

Cardboard Table

A very interesting and what looks to be sturdy cardboard table by Sruli Recht was made to be able to help artists who do not have easy access to a nice table. This table is able to be put together and broken back down for easy transport. Even comes with its own cardboard carrier. One thing I cant find which would be interesting is how long does it take to put it together?

Nissan’s GT-R Design

It is great to see a company that will show off its products designs, even the ones that never had a chance. Nissan is doing this with the GT-R. Obviously it helps when the final outcome is as successful as the new GT-R, but it is very interesting and worth noting on an art blog all the designs they went through before arriving at the final one.

List of Icons from DeviantArt

Noupe.com has a nice list of 40 icons packs from artists on DeviantArt.

I really like the “realistic” icons right now such as this one below. I would love to see a whole set done this way.
