Can creativity be bought?

I was reading an article written by Paul Scrivens on 9rules where he posed the question can design be taught or are we just lucky to inherit?

What goes into someone being “good” at design? Do they have to be really creative or maybe just a little? It is possible for someone to accidentally be creative?

Many things can be taught. Such as how to render a still life or how to alter a color palette. But my feeling is true creativity is something you are born with. I have seen it is possible to teach others how to render something they see realistically and to take an idea which they want to communicate and translate it into, stone, metal, paint, etc. But to be able to communicate well an idea to an individual through an artistic medium is very tough.

My point being as an artist develops over time, are they learning to be more creative or exercising the creativity they already had.

Some hear what they see

This sounds weird put this way but an article I ran across made an interesting point, that some art and artists became popular because certain individuals would associate sounds with certain visual elements. This condition is called synesthesia. Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which two or more bodily senses are coupled. I found a lot of information on this at the synesthesia wikipedia article.

The news article made reference to Kandinsky saying his artworks could be “heard”. All of humans use a form of unconscious association but some see actual color when they hear music or hear music when they see certain things.

News article.
