Art League of Jacksonville

Having your whole life revolve around a particular subject such as art will give you a great appreciation for all the training one experiences. It is after all learning and practicing that allows us the ability to succeed. Because of this I have always supported art classes in public schools. It is usually in those early school year classes that a child will develop a great love for art. So it is very sad to read that art classes are being cut because of current economic conditions.

It is because of programs such as the Art League of Jacksonville that many different age groups get experience and training in art. I mentioned this specific program because we are currently based out of Jacksonville Florida but there are many programs like this throughout the nation. Their vision is quoted below.

To serve, to teach and promote fine arts within the communities regional to Jacksonville Florida. This organization would offer classes to all ages and skill levels of people within various medium of the arts for a low cost. This organization would play a vital role in fostering the growth and spirit of the arts within all age groups of the regional community through interaction, collaboration, promotion and exhibition of community artists. Encourage the Jacksonville community through arts programs – no and low cost – which will enrich knowledge and the appreciation of fine arts.

Painting using Motor Oil

President Obama painting using used motor oil

A portrait of President Obama was created by artist David Macaluso using used motor oil. It would be great to learn how the artist created all the tones with the oil. Was anything added to vary the color? Or was it the techinique of applying it? Either way it shows there is no end to the materials an artist can use to make art. Here is a video showing him create a painting using the oil.
